The call to serve

As the CEO of Community Health and Wellness, LLC, you could say serving people with disabilities and at risk youth has always been a calling for me. When I was 15 years old, I began volunteering and serving at camps. I enjoyed serving others and connecting on a personal level, creating and facilitating songs, hikes, activities, games, and more. It brought me such happiness to encourage development through recreation, music, and service.

Developing a dream

My senior year of high school, I began working with a Recreation Therapist to provide after school programming for at risk youth. It was wonderful. We tutored youth and helped them finish their school assignments. Additionally, we planned local community activities and field trips, such as the animal shelter. I was hooked. I wanted to provide after school services to everyone when I grew up. At 17, this was a lofty goal, a dream of future business and service, but I believed would happen.

Exploring the call to serve others

When I entered Longwood University, I worked several jobs, working and volunteering with at risk youth and adults disabilities. Although I entered college as a Special Education major, after a year in the program, I didn’t feel settled. I considered changing schools, but I really loved the Longwood campus. Upon starting my sophomore year, I met with a Professor of Therapeutic Recreation, and I soon switched my major from SPED to Therapeutic Recreation. I began an amazing journey in academics, learning how to plan programs, create goal-oriented treatment plans, connect with clients on a personal level, and advocate for others. Discovering I could major in Therapeutic Recreation helped make me believe in my dream of opening my own business and serving the community through therapeutic recreation programming.

our cfo

Meeting our CFO, my husband, Joe Everitt, during my senior therapeutic recreation internship helped further my dream of opening a therapeutic business. Joe is an entrepreneur and has a generous spirit. He has a gift for meeting others where they are, connecting with them on a personal level, and helping others achieve their goals. Joe believes in changing lives one at a time through kindness and service. We immediately began to explore how to achieve our dreams.
